Seattle Squash League Finals – April 9, 2024, Seattle Athletic Club Downtown

Division 1 - Imported Excellence Def. Love-All 3-1

They say it does not matter if you drop a few matches along the way, as long as your No. 1 shows up for the finals! With both Zane and Vicky present at the April 9 finals, Imported Excellence cruised to a 3-1 victory over Love-All, which had previously beaten them in February 3-1.  Whether Imported Excellence is a junior or pro led team…, they got the job done.  Check out the videos below of Laila and Vicky, who battled for 5 games before Vicky prevailed.

Zane McGee-Lowdermilk Def Jesper Phillips 3-0

Vicky Lust Def. Laila Sedky 3-2

Ariel Labra Def. Mahdy Karam 3-1

Joseph Suh Def Henry Weber 3-1

Division 2 - Wallbangers Def Butternuts 2-2 (9-8)

The excitement was building for the final match of the night, with Butternuts up 2-1 and Ben Vicuna leading Vikram Kumar 2-0 in the fourth match.  While the Butternuts were secretly celebrating with payback for last year, Vikram had other ideas.  In perhaps the best match of the finals, and with many hard fought and contested points, Vikram pulled out the win while the crowd screamed in joy and the age-old agony of defeat.  The prior match between Benjamin Kong and Sandeep Atluri also went 5 games, with Sandeep for the Butternuts winning that match.  Check out the videos and see how they got it done. Well played!

Vikram Kumar Def. Ben Vicuna 3-2 (7-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6)

Sandeep Atluri Def. Benjamin Kong 3-2 (11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 7-11, 11-7)

Bryce Stevenson Def. Totte Karlsson 3-1 (11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7)

Qasim Tanga Def. Carlos Hubert 3-0 (11-7, 11,7, 11,7)

Division 3 - Clubless in Seattle Def Poultry in Motion 2-2 (9-8)

The D3 finals featured the long-awaited match between two undefeated players, Andres Suarez (6-0) and Najib Morcos (13-0). Yet both players were rated a 1.50, because they had not lost and the Club Locker algorithm requires a losing score… No matter, they both played hard with Andres’ stealth power, winning the day.  How about a rematch next season fellas?! But Clubless ultimately won the match on games, thanks to the ageless Edgar Figueredo’s 3-2 win over Viresh Gehlawat.  Kudos to Moren for coming back from 0-2 v. Maurico and winning 3-2, but it was not enough and Poultry fell to Clubless 2-2, 9-8.

Andres Suarez Def. Najib Morcos 3-1 (11-9, 11-3, 5-11, 11-8)

Edgar Figueredo Def. Viresh Gehlawat 3-2 (4-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6)

Morten Warncke-Wang Def. Mauricio Cerna (3-2) 9-11, 2-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8)
